Give me suggestions of what has worked (or helped) for those of you who have quit smoking? -

What to expect? How long will the -wanting to hurt everybody for no good reason- last? Stratigies and what not?
Been quitting now for 33 years only thing that ever kept me off of um for three days was surgery and before that padded cell for three days.
It-s gonna sound strange, maybe unbelievable, but it-s all mind over matter.
I used to smoke almost 2 pks a day and once I decided, just quit cold Turkey and have been clean for over 2 years now.
What I-ve suggested to others is this:
Get yourself a container of WHOLE CLOVES from the supermarket. Then get yourself a small amount of Oil of Wintergreen from the pharmacy.
You-re not going cold turkey but,
Whenever you feel like smoking, chew up a whole clove then just smell the Wintergreen until the urge to smoke passes.
Do this each time you have an urge.
After a while, you-ll less and less feel the urge until you-re able to completely stop.
Remember that it-s now your mind over your matter. Your system should have been detoxed over several days of this regimen.
Think how much $ you-ll be saving and how much better you-ll feel too.
As far as feeling the -meanies-, find a project you can hammer something together and get it out that way. Hurting anyone-s not an option.
GOOD LUCK! You might like to write Y-Answers when you-ve quit so we know it-s do-able.
For about two weeks before I quit, I was getting these sharp jolting pains thru my chest, when I cut down smoking they went away, one morning a big sap went thru my chest and that did it, I looked myself in the mirror and said to my self, -dude, I think this is the last warning-, I trashed the cigs and I have never had a desire to smoke again, thats been 12 yrs, ago,,I guess a person just needs to get the holy crap scared out em before they see the light...
This was an answer for someone else, still, you sound like someone who is a Male Warrior under the skin, and just wants out to express his true insides: Do it right, read this. And if this isn-t for you, go Marines, or Army, and they will send you to the same instructors, anyway.
When I was young and studied Karate in Japan, my instructor told me to ALWAYS drink Green Tea - Look up the reasons - It-s just GOOD FOR YOU.
To eat -Gohun,- which is the Japanese word for -Food- - And for -Brown Rice.- Over there, only a small amount of meat and veggies go with the rice, for IT is the main course. Full of fiber, vitamins, nutrients, you wanna loose weight and get healthy, there you go! Once you learn how to steam it right, it GOES WITH EVERYTHING.
(Plain, with Budweiser, even)
If you exercise so hard in basketball, be sure to eat lots of fiber, and that will make you 20 lbs lighter! I mean it!
Besides your basketball, just WALK. JOG when you can. Again, advise from my Karate Instructor. Whenever you exercise, breathe! Let it in and out! OUT goes the fat!
Of course, if you can find a Hayashi-ha Karate-Do instructor near you, you could get into this intensive anerobic life-style, which you will find is a life-long one. It is not just -Exercise,- or -Self-defense,- it is a moral standing, a higher existance, and a life-long dedication. It-s also saved my life, and made me useful to the benefit of society in general, countless times, in more ways than I can explain here.
Guod Rruck!
i Got so sick that when I would even smell smoke i would fell real sick. Chew lotsa gum. eat drink lotsa water, and when u start craving do something that has you mind focused on what your doing. like make a webpage. also hide your smokes. somewhere where u can-t normaly reach...all helped with my b/f stop smoking
My mom quit smoking a few years ago, and she told me that basically it was a combination of will power and sweets. She first used the chewing gum (I think it was something like Nicorette) to make her stop smoking, and then she substituted smoking one cigarette by eating chocolate. Yes, it did make her gain a few pounds, but she stopped smoking.
I think that you need some will power to stop smoking. Products may work but only to some extent. You need to start thinking, -Smoking is killing me. If I stop, I can live a healthier life.-
If you want to quit smoking I would suggest a hypnotherapy. It works wonders. I have heard SOO many good things, and one of my friends is a hypnotherapist, and not one person in her class has smoked since they have gotten there and done the class. :)
When the doctor took out my left lung.

Quit smoking, can I still grow? -

Quit smoking, can I still grow? -

I started smoking when I was 14, and I was like maybe 5-6 then. I am now 17 and I am 5-9. I have recently quit smoking and started eating healthy and exercising regularly. Is it realistic to think that I will reach 6-, or taller. When I was a baby the doctors said because of my abnormally large head I was probally going to be pretty tall. My dad is around 6-2 and my mom is around 5-2. Ohh and Im a guy, I guess that would help.
You only have a year or so left. It is possible.
Males don-t reach full maturity until age 21 (thats why it-s the drinking age here in the US) so maybe. You might just bulk up and not get taller though.
Good job on quiting smoking. Since your only 17, you will definitly be at least 6- if your 5-9 now. But it might now be until your like 19 or 20
My son was only 5-5- until he turned 18. Then he had a huge growth spurt and is now 6-2-. Be patient and keep away from those cigs and see what happens.
Well, you might grow for another 3 years, and then again you might not. Get plenty of sleep and work on your posture to make the best of what you are and will be.
Anyway, 5-9- is not exactly short.
ummmmmm no. It-s hereditary I don-t smoke, never have and am still only 5ft lol

Am on quit-smoking way, after 48 hours I had half ciggarate.Would it affect my quit-smoking resolve? -

It will make it easier for you light up that next smoke, if you can tell your self,-I-ll just smoke another Half-

After a while you-ll be back where you started.

Go through another pack and don-t even think about, stopping smoking, unless you want to stop completely.

Smoking is psychologically addicting: meaning-your mind will miss smoking more than you will, which is why you cant just put it down.

Your mind will give you apparently logical ways to get out of remove the source of all that nicotine.

Stopping is easier than you think, just stop listening to those silly things you tell yourself.

Do something that you enjoy to distract yourself.

Chew on a pen or pencil.

I had a bag of straws in my kitchen cabinet that I would practice pretending was a cigarette.

It worked because the mind doesn-t care if its real or not and you gradually lose the need to pat you pockets for that pack of cigarettes.

When you haven-t had cigarettes in a month or two your body will flush all that nicotine from your lungs and cause you to cough as much as I smoker and you will have that need for a cigarette for six or eight months, although it will be smaller until it disappear completely!

Good Luck, by the way!
yes dont do it...

I quit smoking cigarettes 2 months ago. Does your lungs ever replenish and become their normal state? -

If so, how long is the process? Does it depend on age? I am 24 and have been smoking since age 16.
You are young, so you-ll recover almost 99% !

It will take 7 years before complete regeneration (all your body cells - but those of heart and brain - are dying and being replaced by brand-new one. the compllete process takes 7 years)

There you go for more info :
http://index-go.com/health_fitness_medic…

It can take a long time but since you are young hopefull your lungs will clear up. It is hard to tell how much permanent damage was done without having pulmonary testing done. Congrats on not smoking though.
Your lungs actually start to heal 30 minutes after your last cig, it is just most of the time you light up again, so yes give it time and try some cardio to help build back your healthy body.
Yes, they actually do - after two to three years generally. Then your lungs will look as though you never smoked at all.

Good for you and hang in there!
yay for you and yes they do!

Since everybody-s physiology differs timing depends;also the amount on a regular basis you used to smoke (your pack per day average) will affect recovery. For someone young as yourself and a relatively limited exposure in terms of years you lungs can recover more quickly. As cells in our body do regenerate, your lungs should be great.

That-s the reason to stop smoking anyway, because the lungs can heal from the insult the chemicals in the smoke impart.
I smoked 2 packs/day for 20+ years. I am 47 years old. Five months ago I had 5 bypass open heart surgery (CABG), at that time I was also diagnosed with COPD (Emphysema) and Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). Smoking was my only risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Smoking is a large factor in the COPD. Emphysema is a non-reversible disease but damage can be stopped by quitting smoking and symptoms somewhat relieved by getting treatment.. With the Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis genetics seems to play a role, smoking may be a contributing factor but the actual cause is unknown (idiopathic). What is known is that the immune system seems to kick into overdrive and when damage occures the scaring caused is exaggerated. People that work around metal and wood (me) dusts seem to have a greater occurrence of IPF. IPF is irreversable disease. In fact it is a progressive disease. Current treatments provide relief from the symptoms and at best slow it-s progression. IPF is often fatal disease with about 2/3 of patients dieing within 5-6 years of diagnosis.

See the links below for more information on these three diseases.

I am very pleased to hear that you have quit smoking. I too quit the day I went in the hospital for the bypass surgery. My heart surgeon prescribed Bupropion, the brand names are Welbutrin and Zyban. I would suggest that you have your doctor take a Chest X-ray and perform a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT). From there he/she can determine if further testing is needed and how often to retest.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Terry
20 Minutes After Quitting: Your heart rate drops.

10 Years After Quitting: Your lung cancer death rate is about half that of a smoker’s. Your risk of cancers of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas decreases.

15 Years After Quitting: Your risk of coronary heart disease is back to that of a nonsmoker’s
Yes they do but it takes time. It wont happen over night.
Studies have shown that lungs can and do revert to a -non-smokers- state when one quits smoking.

The extent of the of -fix- depends on the age of the person and how much they smoked for how long.

You are still young and don-t have too many years as a smoker. If you QUIT NOW, you likely won-t have much of an increased risk for smoking related diseases in the future (e.g. cancer, chronic bronchitis, emphysema).

The longer you wait, the less the damage is reversible, but SOME risk is always averted by quitting, so it-s never too late to stop.
I-ve read that it takes on average 10 years for your lungs to be as capable as pre- smoking. It varies with age and length of smoking and amount you smoked. It-s worth mentioning, as well, the lungs do continually rejuvenate and -heal- themselves before that time. So, it is still beneficial, of course. Although, sometimes there are cases where the lungs and/or respiratory system can never get back to what they were. Such as when a person has aquired asthma from their smoking habit. Best of luck - kudos on quitting- I know it-s the hardest thing I ever had to do, but after 6 mos. I feel 100%!

What is life expecting of someone who has COPD and is on oxygen and has just quit smoking? -

What is life expecting of someone who has COPD and is on oxygen and has just quit smoking? -

That can not be answered on Yahoo Answers or any other site like it. Life expectancy can be very different for someone with underling medical conditions along with COPD. Obstructive Sleep apnea, heart disease, diabetes and an other chronic disease can severely complicate the COPD process.

My suggestion to you is to find a local pulmonary rehab program. Their goal is to help COPD patients live a longer life with a higher quality of life style.

Good luck

Please let me know. If it did, tell me how and did you gradually decrease the gum you chewed each day. How many pieces did you chew each day? If it didn-t work, please tell me why? I-m trying to quit.
I totally helped me quit, until I ran out of the gum. That stuff is worthless

No, Nicorette gum doesn-t work it-s all bull.
just throw the pack away dont buy any more clean all the ashtrays and chow on some thing when ur getting a craving i dont belive gum its hard but ur health is so much better when u stop ive been good for 3 months and not even craving it
Don-t listen to people who don-t smoke!
I smoke. I haven-t tried to quit yet, but, my mom did 6 years ago and she still chews the hell out of that gum. Not nearly as much as when she first quit but i-d say like 4 to 5 pieces a day now.
You get addicted to the gum.

Quit smoking amp; now I have a cough. Is that normal? -

So I decided a week ago that I wanted to quit smoking because it is not in keeping with many of my personal goals.

For the past three days I have had a very itchy feeling in my lungs that occasionally leads to a cough, but when I do cough I cough so much that I almost throw up.

I don-t feel like I am sick.

Somebody told me this could be my lungs trying to cough years of tar out of them. Is that true - if so should I be taking some kind of cough syrup to try - break the tar up or is that a stupid idea?

Thanks.
What you were told is true. Depending on how much and how long you smoked you will have a brisk cough. I smoked for 11 years and quit last November I coughed for about 3 months. However, I am much healthier now and never even get a cold. You will feel much better a coupled weeks after the coughing. Great choice in quitting by the way!!!!
Your body is trying to get used to not having cigs. Don-t worry, it will go away eventually. Try some throat lozenges or hard candy to keep your throat lubricated. Cough syrup is not necessary.
It-s your lungs clearing out. Just drink lots of water and hack it all up. I quit in February and went through the same thing. BTW most cough syrup is a suppressant. So it really wont help get the tar out. Maybe take it a night for sleeping.
quite normal.

My dad quit smoking about 3 years ago. My mom and i are thinking that he went back to smoking. how do we tell? -

we want to be sure. My mom smelled that smoke smell in his work car. One of his sweaters smelled of smoke. How are we sure he-s smoking, we didn-t find any cigarettes. Are we crazy? I even said - I smell smoke on your sweater, and he said ohh...maybe it-s left over from when i smoked. only thing is he got that sweater last year from my grandmother. i walked out of the room and spyed on him. He started smelling his sweater. Is he smoking again?
have your mom kiss his hand romantically, stinky fingers are a sure fire giveaway.
he is.
just ask ,if he says no,and he is lying youll know .its a very hard thing to let go of,ive tried to quit lots of times!!!
Smoke in the clothes and car is a clue, but not evidience--he might just be overly accomodating to a smoking coworker or friend. When I used to bowl, I-d always smell like smoke when I came home.

The biggest clue for whether he is doing it himself would be his breath (your mom will have to check that) --does it smell like smoke or something to cover smoke that he usually doesn-t do, like gum or mints? The second is to smell his hand--most people forget to wash their hands after smoking, and that is a much better telltale than the clothes--clothes soak up the smoke, your hands will only reek if you were holding a cigarette.
well it could be he was near people who smoke. you cannot be sure if it is him who was smoking. i quit smoking a little less than 6 months ago, and the sure way to know that someone smokes or not is from their breath. it stinks. so stand close to your dad when talking to him and im sure you-d smell the difference if he were smoking again.
I would have to agree, have your mom smell his hand. The hand is the hardest place to get smoke smell off of no matter how much you wash your hands.
My dad quit smoking about 3 years ago. My mom and i are thinking that he went back to smoking. how do we tell? -

I want to quit smoking. Whats the best method? -

I-ve been smoking since 18 and I-m now 25. I have a pretty stressful job, and I really feel like I would need an aid to help me quit. Also, I-ve quit for extended periods of time before (once for 3 months and once for 7 months). What-s the trick to sustained quitting of smoking
Quitting smoking is a great opportunity to learn about ourselves.
Congratulate yourself on having the desire to stop - then you are over the worst, but still need to maintain your resolve. It-s just so easy to start thinking that just one won-t hurt, but it does. Just one achieves nothing except feeling the need for another. Whatever you do, don-t have just one. Beware - alcohol will weaken your resolve.
Here-s a few home-brewed tips that might be useful.
It-s not just nicotine addiction - there are 50+ chemicals in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as -my body needs something-, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these -my body needs something- sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the -want something- feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we-ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
We will have a few bouts of feeling or even being short tempered. We must try to bite our lip, and control; ourselves. Recognise the short temper as being the removal of toxins which are trying to find a way out. They went in through the mouth, and they try to get out that way to. We must learn to keep our mouth closed, and force the toxins out the other way.

After we have stopped for a while we will begin to feel that just one wont to any harm.
All that leads to is a desire for just another one. We must guard very strongly against the desire to have just one.
the best way to giving up smoking is to have determination and confidence. if you-re not determined to give up then why bother. when you wake up in the mornings look in the mirror and tell your self that you will give up smoking and you will do it with no set backs.
my method was to not smoke for 2 weeks but you might cough alot and if you smoked for a long time you might cough up black stuff you have to clean you lungs so the sooner you stop the healthier you will be keep a pack of chewing gum in your pocket at all time or mints
I found the best thing to quit smoking is the new drug chantix. It really works, but you have to be careful with the dosage. I am a very small person and when I first started taking it, I did extremely well, but you start taking a larger dose and when I did, I had some bad things going on in my head that wasn-t me. Talk to your Dr. about this medication. I have tried them all and this worked best for me, but could only take half the dose recommended.
There is a new drug called Chantix by Pfizer that will stop the craving of nicotine. This is a first. It is new and has helped a few people so far. It is expensive but cheaper than smoking, long term.
Good luck
Stay away of others smoking, the smell is enough to entice you to light up. Good luck.
Unfortunately there isn-t a best method, all depend of you.........AND YOU BEING STRONG........

GOOD LUCK??
you should try talking to a psychiatrist or think about how healthy and good you will feel when you have successfully quit.
Get a book called -Easyway to stop smoking- by Alan Carr. I heard about this on a radio show a few years ago and i tried it.It worked for me.Before reading this I had tried chewing gum, patches, willpower.Nothing worked then I read this and two weeks later I quit for good. That was back in 1996 and I-m a happy non smoker ever since then! I couldn-t have achieved this freedom without that book.Check it out
Sheer will power! Good luck! I-m trying to give up passive smoking! lol
I tried hypnosis-useless! Then the patch, it was o.k but not very effective. I was smoking again in a month. Try Nicorette or any stop smoking gum, it hits you faster and calms you down.Dont chew too much! If your friends or co-workers smoke then dont be around them when they do. Dont go to bars or anywhere were smoking is taking place. That was the time of greatest temptation for me. After a few months you will notice how sensitive your sense of smell has become. Anyone with the smell of smoke on then will make you feel off and you will sense how disgusting it is. A week ago I smelled a cigarette on my way to work but couldnt see anyone. Finally I realised the person was over 600ft in front of me! That is how in tune my senses are now.
Good luck.

I quit smoking 1 month and 2 weeks ago, i still feel sometimes like im not getting enough air, is that normal? -

i had an chest x-ray and my doctor said it looks normal, could it be asthma or anxiety did anyone experienced something like that?
My mom actually had this problem so i gave her the idea that when ever you feel short of breath take a huge breath (as big as you can) and hold it for as long as you can and breathe out. it might hurt a little bit but then it should work. its kinda like flexing your lungs so they will start to hold more air. so if you do it alot. your lung capicity will increase

--- edit
you also may have asthma. just get an inhaler from the doctor aftery ou take a few tests

Recently Quit Smoking..Best Way To Cleanse Body? -

I just recently quit smoking and want to start a much healthier life style. Does anyone know if there is a way to clean out your lungs or your body after quitting smoking? Thanks so much
keep working out and eating healthy your lungs can clean themselves out in good time.. by the way congrats on the quitting, good job.
Your lungs will eventually clean them selves out purely by the action of breathing.
Cardiovascular exercise and good old sweating.

Will and if so how long will it take my lungs to go back to normal after I quit smoking? -

Will and if so how long will it take my lungs to go back to normal after I quit smoking? -

Just 20 minutes after your last cigarette, your blood pressure and
pulse rate drop to normal and the body temperature of your hands and
feet increases to normal.

A mere 8 hours after your last smoke, the carbon monoxide level
decreases and the oxygen level in your blood increases to normal.

Just 24 hours after your last cigarette, you substantially lessen
your chances of having a heart attack.

Two days after your last cigarette, you will notice that your
ability to taste and smell is enhanced.

Three days later, your breathing should be noticeably better
because your lung capacity will be greater.

Your circulation will improve and your lung functioning will
increase up to 30% within two weeks to three months after quitting.

Between one month and nine months, the cilia in your lungs will
regenerate, allowing your body to clean your lungs and reduce
infection.

One year after quitting, your risk of coronary heart disease is
half that of a smoker.

Five years after quitting, your risk of stroke is reduced to that
of a nonsmoker.

Ten years after quitting, the lung cancer death rate is about half
that of a continuing smokers. The risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney and pancreas decreases.

Fifteen years after quitting, your risk of coronary heart disease is that of a nonsmokers.

Exercise is a great substitute for smoking. You may find that as you
exercise more, you cough more, clearing out your lungs and airways.
This is good. Most likely you-ll breath easier and build up your
endurance as you get further and further from your last cigarette.

The lungs come equipped with a self-cleaning cycle, but overloading
them with smoke or smog will gunk up the works. The cilia, or hairlike
structures in your lungs, flagellate (that-s move) upward, coaxing the
bad stuff out of the alveoli (little air sacs) and into the trachea,
where the gunk grows into a frightening reminder of why you should
have been better to your lungs to begin with. -It-s like a mucus
escalator,- says Norman Edelman, M.D., a scientific advisor to the
American Lung Association. -That-s a major form of defense. Within a
few days to a week (after quitting smoking], you start feeling better,
and you start coughing up all that bad mucus you have down there.
They will never get normal bcuz you already damaged them smoking

Tough Break
I have heard that after ten years it is as if you have never smoked. Not sure how true it is.
they told me 3 years for every year you smoked. so i smoked for 17 years means in 51 yrs or 27 more? cjhs

Quit smoking? -

i need help. i tried to quit smoking in the past and tried everything with it; gum, patch, ect. i really want to stop but i recently got my class A and i drive semis and i work at night and i know im not going to be able to sleep and my concentration will be lost and i dont really want that to happen while im out there on the road. i hate cigarettes.any help will do. thanks.
I know the feeling been smoking over 50 years ...and Im done..wanted to fit in with the crowd many years ago..and here it is many years later..and I need to fit in with the ever increasing world of non-smokers...I have a chance to live without their control over me and the high cost of purchase. Have had Chantix since 11/07 unopened..but decided to overcome my fear of taking the precription and dealing with a side effect or two...instead of buying two paks of cigs aday and killing myself..pray for my struggle and wish you luck to get off the butts...
If you can afford it, try the prescription medication Chantix. I swear, it-s a freaking miracle drug. I didn-t even have much motivation at all to quit and it took away my desire. I also know quite a few other people who quit because of it, including a woman who smoked 2 packs a day for over 40 years! I recommend it to everyone.
The best way to do it... is to just do it. The first three days are the hardest bc your body is detoxing the chemicles and afterwards it is merely a psychological addiction.

I personally started smoking as a teen around 16 and now at 23 I quit about 2 months ago.

I will admit the first few days were the hardest so I stocked up on Big Red gum and chewed it instead.

The prob with the patch etc. is it still allows the nicotine to be in your body and takes longer to get off it.

I say just suck up some will power and do it! Good luck
I quit 14 months ago.
I talked with my dr who prescribed Chantix. Worked wonders. I didn-t have any urges to smoke and am smokefree!
you need to take the pill or patches or whatever and slowly wean yourself off them and keep taking it fpr like 2 weeks and then after that if u feel the need to smoke put a patch on and wait like 10 minutes and you will feel better
Perhaps the nicorette activestop program might help.
Hey! My mom is trying to quit and she just purchased One Step at a Time cigarette filters. They work by blocking some of the nicotine from your cigarette. Check them out, my mom says her craving are lessening.

What is the best way to make your mother quit smoking ? -

What is the best way to make your mother quit smoking ? -

let her know that smoking is really bad for her health and let her know that it bothers you when she smokes...explain to her the type of health problems that caused by smoking...my mother used to smoke..and we always tell her to stop smoking...we let her know that its a bad habit...that we care about her..and not ready to lose her as our mother..and its been 4 years that she-s a smoke- free...
Unfortunately, you can-t get your mom to quit. She has to want to quit. I used the patch and worked well. The kit came with a diary to find out when/why you want a cigaret. Also, diary tells you to treat yourself to something. Suggest buying your mom a day at the spa if she quits smoking for 30 days.
she-s got to want to do it. but if you tell her she is cutting your life short for her convienence is pretty selfish, and you might miss out on your grandkids weddings because you have second hand lung cancer because of her maybe she will feel guilty enough to quit.
see if you can find some other long white round things your mom will like sucking on
Well you can-t make her, no one can force someone to do something but you can try guilting her into stopping by giving her the statistics about lung cancer from secondary smoke. Dana Reeves, Christopher Reeves wife died a few months ago from 2nd hand smoke from working in a restaurant when she was younger, she was not a smoker and a very health conscious person. Make a list of all the people your mom might know that died from cancer and secondary smoke. Tell her how you hate her exposing you to health risks. My mother was in the hospital from pnemonia many times until the last one, she finally did quit but not before it damaged her for the rest of her life. I hope your mom does stop.
hide her ciggs or tell her how it makes you feel
I have the same problem.........sorry I really think there-s nothing we can do. The only thing i-d say is to be supportive of them when they decide to quit and don-t pestor them(I have to work on that)
u cant MAKE her!, she has to really want to and that is her choice, not yours.
You can-t make you mother stop smoking, she has to want to stop smoking.
They sell little kits at the drug store that have a plastic cigarette shaped tube and nicotine cartridges. They help you quit because you still get the hand to mouth thing..and you also get a bit of nicotine...but you aren-t actually smoking. After a while you just puff on the plastic cig and don-t bother putting another nicotine cartridge in...so you are just puffing air. It really works...I have tried it.
Your mom is her own boss. I know you care for her but there is not much you can do - sorry
tell her that for every pack of cigarettes she smokes in a day she will loose 2 teeth in 10 years...is a fact... but overall she needs to be the one wanting to quit
You cant make her quit smoking honey. All you can do is make sure she is well educated on the dangers etc and offer her all the support she needs to quit, the rest is up to her.
depends on how old are you and how old she is. when i was bout 5 i have nagged my mom to quit smoking, then when i got to about 16 and started smoking. she sure didnt like that, but then i guess my father was concerened with my health and made a bet who will quit smoking, he quit and i continued but i did stop after awhile and now im smoke free for good couple of months
Let her know how much you love her and are there to support her. Let her know that you need her! It doesn-t hurt to keep alot of gum and hard candy for her to eat on hand either.
u cant
it is her choice
if she wants to live long enough to see you grow she will quit but there is nothing you can do
sry
you starty smoking also more than she already does.

Has anyone here quit smoking cold turkey? -

if so, what did you do to help?
all the time but you have to cook the turkey then you-l be cool!
J/k
I weaned down to 4 cigs a day, then walked away but I kept sugar free gum and chewed it when I wanted a cig. Stay away from high calorie candies that is part of the weight gain. That and without your taste buds dulled by smoking everything tastes different. Its not only a nicotine addiction but smokers tend to flock and socialize. Being female I found I always got stuck doing the dishes because everyone else went to smoke. Good luck!
3 weeks today for me -cold turkey style
the 1st week i was soooooooooo angry i wanted to hit some thing, heres my tips- keep by your side at all times fat free things to put in your mouth, hold a pen all the time i needed some thing in my hands i tapped it alot, and finally look at web sites they show disturbing photos of what smoking can do to you this was all i needed....3 weeks and going strong
I just started smoking and I-m kicking my *** over it. I-ve heard from many people that getting sick and not having the physical strength to eat let alone light up a smoke helped them quit. Others say pregnancy helps, both women and men quit when their is something at stake. But truthfully, It-s all willpower and if you truly want to quit, You will.
I stopped cold turkey...... i basicly made sure all my cigs were smoked the night before i stopped and woke up in the morning without smoking. Jus carried on with it. I think you have to really want to stop to do it cold turkey, but it worked for me.
My husband used the chewing gum,, nicoret i think they were called. But he swore they helpd him stop compleatly. Good luck =)
I did quit smoking with out any smoking aids, what I did is I replaced cigerettes with joints. when that got to expensive i cut down on that too! it may sound crazy but weed isn-t as addictive as tabacco and its the craving and the motion of smoking that is the hardest to stop!
Yes, joined a gym!
It-s amazing how different your workout will be even if you have one ciggy during the day of the workout!!
If I have a smoke at 9am and workout at 5pm, I can do half as much exercise as if i didn-t smoke at all!!
Give it a week and the breathing benefits are improved massively!!
I did and i-m a 130 pound female. I don-t care what anyone says. It aint hard to stop smoking unless you just don-t have any kind of discipline. I smoked a pack a week for a yr straight anad haven-t smoked a cig in eight months. Im joining the U.S Marines this year and I want bootcamp to be as easy as possible. See? I-m ready. If I can do it you sure as hell can do it. (And your a man for God-s sake)
I have. Heres the #1 secret to quiting smoking: You just do it.

No patches no gums. The only way to quit smoking is to throw the pack away and put it out of your mind. It might take a few tries, but once you have fully quit, you-ll be surprised at how easy it was.
I smoked a little bit when I was with my ex because he smoked... (not that he MADE me, but, I tend to want them if Im around them)
- after I left him I found myself craving them somtimes, but,
just look at it - say, -Im bigger than you- - flush it
Yeah, I have. I had a new boyfriend who had recently quit himself. I remember we mainly had a lot of sex to cover up the cravings.
I did. It was a case of I really wanted to, so I did. I started chewing more gum (ordinary gum). I now totally hate tobacco. I should also point out I has been smoking for -20 years.
I just did not buy any more smokes and smoked herbal cigarettes at first from the health food shop. I just had strong willpower and everytime I felt like a smoke, I had a piece of fruit
yes i want through major with drawles i had the sweets and you get bad headaches not fun but in the end its all wroth it.
i use-t to eat mints that really worked for me good luck

I quit smoking, what can I do to curve my appetite? -

Ok, I quit like 7-8 months ago, but all I want to do is EAT!! I am half tempted to smoke again to get skinny. What can I do to curve my appetite or what can I eat constantly that wont add to my weight?
Drink a lot of water. whenever you start to feel hungry, drink water. (use lemon and lime juice to make it tasty, without the cals). You-ll pee a lot, but you won-t be taking in a lot of cals or sugar.
How about the mini carrots ,celery, smoking is a hand to mouth thing lollipops are good. You should be very proud of yourself...... Don-t light up drink alot of water how about fruit.?
suck on peppermint candy

How can I quit smoking? -

I quit seven years ago by changing brands of cigarettes about every two or three months . Each time I changed brands I bought one with less tar and nicotine than the last .when I got to the lowest rated one I could find I smoked them and picked a quiting day and stuck to it . It is very hard to quit ,but it is possible ,Just convince your self you can do it and prove to every one that said you couldn-t ,you have a stronger will power than they thought . I tried the patches, pills ,and gums none of them worked . Cold turkey was the only way I managed to quit . If you don-t succeed the first time like I did , try again as soon as possible. If I can quit any body can .I smoked for 36 years
Pray for the Lord to help you!!!
develop a strong zeal to quit smoking.
to develop aversion for tobacco,
1. take glon-30 one pill daily for two weeks.
2. take one drachm/10 gms of mixture of calcarea phos 3x, natrum mur 3x in a tumbler/flask [thermos flask] of hot water and sip it every 10 minutes for one day. that-s all, u can quit smoking by doing like above for three days, good luck to u.
My moms gets emails from www.about.com on quitting smoking - she didn-t quit yet, but she-s feeling more in the mood to.
When you crave a cigarette, find something else to occupy your mind. Don-t try to quit cold turkey because it could come back to bite you. Try the patch or gum or something...
We-ll I quit smoking 5 years ago when I found out I was pregnant and it was the hardest thing i ever did, but my baby was more important to me. After about 2 months the cravings were alot better. Try to eat hard candy, take walks, anything to take your mind off it. Good luck.
when you find out please let me know.........i need help too. there are stop smoking websites.......just go to google search and type in help stop smoking.....there are several different websites that can help you.......good luck.......

Can someone tell me what is the best way to quit smoking. tell me what item i can use? -

I smoked for 20 years 2 packs a day and am currently taking chantix..it has been over a week since my last smoke and I dont even crave them. There are side effects..dreams are very vivid but I dont mind that.

I tried the patch, gum and numerous other things and always started back again within a few days. I was anxious and difficult to get along with on these things.

I think Chantix is amazing I cannot believe how easy this is with this med

Good Luck
she-s right. I-ve been taking chantix and Its been 4 weeks and 1 day since my last cigg. The side effects can be a little annoying especially the loss of sleep and vivid dreams, but chantix does work great
I quit on the patch. Chantix is not very effective in the long run. Do some research Chantix may cause suicidal behavior as well as eratic behavior and very few people who quit on it are still non-smokers after two years.
I used chantix to quit. I smoked for 20 yrs. and have been quit since last May. It worked well for me, but you have to get it in your head that you -WANT- to quit! I know a few other people who used Chantix and had every excuse in the world why it didn-t work.
if you have children just belive that you have to do this to be able to see you kids grandson or daughter .
i used nicotinell patch. it worked for me. quit smoking was easier as i initially thought. After 6 weeks i stopped with the patch as well and i had almost no problems. first 3 weeks are difficult but very doable. I had in my head that if i dont quit now i will never quit. and that helped, you need a good reason to quit then it is easy really.
I finally did it cold turkey. I tried and tried, and then I just said forget it. I also prayed to St. Anthony. But, then I just said, I-m going to smoke the rest of my life, because i love it, and so eff it, I will never try to quit again. And I meant it 100%. Then a few days or a week later, I couldn-t sleep, around 2am I got up said, -This is IT!!!- tossed them out and fell asleep. I have no idea why it went that way, but it was sort of odd.

I did end up gaining a few pounds, but I increased mysports playing and now look better than ever. I can breathe better, my hair smells fantastic, my teeth are white, and I HATE the smell of smoke now. Cannot stand it at all.
I quit smoking 7 yeas ago.
the only thing that works is cold-turkey.
a few things you-ll need to know.
1. once you quit you can never have a cigarette again, not even after 10 years. if you do, you will end up buying a pack the next day.
2. you have to really want to quit. that means total commitment.
3. you-ll be nervous and irritable for the first couple of weeks. you will probably gain some weight from nervous eating. working out is a good alternative for that stress relief.
4. keep your mouth busy. use chewing gum, tooth picks, straws, anything, just keep your mouth busy.
5. believe it or not, the addiction is 90% mental. after the first week or 2, your body is over it. the rest is in your mind. be strong.
6. after being clean for a few weeks, you-ll remember what food really tastes like, what a lungful of fresh air really feels like, what its like to run up a flight of stairs and not have to catch your breath.

good luck
just stop, IT WILL KILL YOU
Cut off your hands. Hard to smoke if you can-t hold a cigarette or lighter, hopefully your friends won-t do it for you.

I-ve had good luck quitting in the past with the gum. I enjoy smoking though so I go back after 6 months or so.
I just stopped after 40 years!!! how? I just stopped, it-s 5 weeks now and I don-t want to go back to being the smelly, coughing person I was, even my social life has improved.
It-s not easy but it is really worth it.
Chantix if you can afford it or if your insurance pays for it. Best way is to really really want to quit. You will then have enough determination that whatever program you use to quit will work. Best of luck to you.
a great many people I know have been having good success with Chantix. Ask your doctor about it.
There is no quick way or instrument what it really takes is your willpower, if you are willing to stop and think of all those health risks you are effecting your body with. I mean come on - Heart disease, stroke (can happen at any age, they happen in the brain and you can either be paralysed, not in every case or die), scare tactics here, hope you are reading this and thinking OH MY GOD!.

And induviduals who smoke are 10x more likely to suffer CHD and strokes/H.Attacks.

You can stop smoking aslong as you put your mind to it.

Helpfull tips are:

when you are having a craving, instead of heading to open that cigarette packet, go and get an apple or even go and take some exercise and this diminishes your appetite.

Did you know that smoking is a very powerful brain addiction, just like IDU-s.

Hope this helps, jen. Let me know your outcome
Perhaps the nicorette activestop program might help.
Good luck...when I got pregnant I told my husband he won-t be allowed near the baby if he is still smoking. He quit cold turkey. Maybe you could just think of something you love very very much.....you will lose it if you don-t stop smoking.

Have quit smoking for 2 days am feeling extremly lightheaded is this normal? -

Have quit smoking for 2 days am feeling extremly lightheaded is this normal? -

used to smoke 20 a day am also feeling quite spacey and am being more erm -friendly- with customers on the phone how long is this likely to last?
I quit smoking 2-1/2 years ago, and certainly remember that feeling.

The feelings of dizziness and light-headedness and an inability to focus/concentrate are normal. Approximately 2/3 of people who quit experience it.

What is happening is that nicotine is a brain stimulant, and your brain is reacting to the loss of that stimulant.

You should start to see improvement within a couple of weeks, and in a month or so the sensation should be gone.

http://whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Symptoms.ht…

Good luck, and stay with it.
yes and good luck, I gave 15yrs since by willpower only,
man l stopped smoking two days ago too,l am using the pacthes which seem to be doing the trick.Hope you are finding it o.k and we should keep in touch if we have a bad day l used to smoke 20 a day but not no more because l would love to give my lovely husband more children Good luck
This is going to hurt but you-ll make it. Several years ago I chewed over a can a day of chewing tobacco and stopped finally by using the cold turkey method. Cheap, fast, and painful but sucessful. It took about 8 weeks to get over it and another 6 months for all cravings to vanish. You can do it. Remember, you have a lot of company. You-re not in it alone.
if you-re a blonde its normal ha, ha.
Yes, that is normal because you are now depriving your body and brain of the nicotine. My husband uses Nicorette 4mg Gum and it helps with the lightheadedness. Not too expensive WELL WORTH THE TRY!! Keep it up!! You will make it through. Or just go buy JOLT Cola...that may help your head too...hehe
not sure how long it lasts but CONGRATULATIONS on quittin and keep it up
A few days, maybe 2 weeks

Good luck !
This is normal , it will last in about 4 weeks .

Why should you exercise if you want to quit smoking? -

Why should you exercise if you want to quit smoking? -

The most important strategy in remaining free from smoking is to put an exercise component into your life. The major benefits of exercise are these:

* Exercise brings a true, natural, and sustained high.

* Exercise gives relief from tension, a benefit smokers falsely think they get from cigarettes.

* Exercise decreases neuromuscular tension and increases relaxation.

* Aerobic exercise slows and even reverses the aging process.

* The exercised heart pumps more blood with each stroke, so this efficiency saves 20 million superfluous heartbeats per year.

* Exercise offers a long-term reduction of both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

* Exercise dilates blood vessels, allowing blood to circulate freely to the hands, feet, and surface areas of the body. (Most smokers complain of cold hands and feet.)

* Exercise can prevent the potential weight gain connected with breaking free of cigarettes.

* You can develop a healthy addiction to exercise, which will be manifested in many positive changes in addition to losing interest in cigarettes.
I made the mistake of not exercising while quitting smoking. While I have successfully quit almost a year and a half ago, I have packed on 50+ lbs, which I have no one to blame but myself...

I have been chipping away at my weight now for about 2 months, but it is a slow go... I feel I would-ve had a leg up on my weight gain if I would-ve exercised at the same time I quit smoking.
To keep your mind on another type of addiction: RUNNING instead of huffing and puffing on that stupid little rod of paper and tobacco... Also, when you find out your LUNGS are so wasted and you can-t even run for 3 minutes straight, maybe then you will GET THE MESSAGE that smoking has been silently killing you. Who knows, that may be a huge turning point for really quitting the addiction...
Mostly because it-s a healthy distraction that helps take your mind off the nicotine cravings. Plus, people tend to eat more when they-re suffering from nicotine withdrawl, so the extra exercise helps to balance the extra calories.

Also, exercising enough can cause your body to release endorphins, which your brain can potentially relate to in this way: -Exercising instead of smoking makes me happy. I want to exercise instead of smoke.-

Kind of a mind trick you play on yourself, basically.
It-ll take your mind of smoking and get your respiratory and circulatory systems back in shape.
Several reasons:
Distraction, keep your mind off smoking and on healthy.
To counteract changes in metabolism that happen as a result of quitting or starting smoking.
Most people tend to eat more (specially in the first year after quitting) .. exercise helps one keep from gaining too much weight, which often discourages them from quitting.
I quit 4 + years ago. BEST move I ever made (smoked 30 years!!) .. I walk every day, drink lots of water and have never felt better in my life.
Smoking is unhealthy behaviour - exercise is its opposite.
Plus when a person Really wants to quit and Stay quit - they do whatever it takes.
Walking is the Best exercise there is... plus it helps clear the toxins out of the lungs a little faster.

You quitting? .. Right On!!! May you be as successful as I have been!
because it gets your mind off smoking
When you get the urge to smoke you should do some type of excercise ...like just take a walk around the block.
You should exercise because Exercise can curb cravings and keep the weight off that is sometimes associated with quitting smoking.
Doctors have also recomended taking three deep breaths, brush your teeth, chew gum or drink some water.
I used weight lifting to help me quit smoking. It kept my hands busy enough that I didn-t even think of smoking. That and the not running out of breath as easy helped out alot.
That sounds sort of backwards to me. I just quit smoking a month ago and said I would wait thirty days before I joined a gym, because I wanted to give my lungs time to heal before I jumped into a gym membership, my breathing is horrible because my lungs are in bad shape from smoking. But hey whatever floats your boat.
I-ve heard that the craving for something will be stronger and the urge to eat hard candy, suckers, peppermint sticks will make you gain weight. Also, I-ve heard that after 3 days your taste buds will come back alive and you will have a tendency to eat more.
well for me i felt that exercising kept my mind off smoking and i also found that when i ran it kept me out of breath to the point where i didnt want to smoke.
Its an alternative to sitting around thinking about smoking and the increased metabolism from exercise can clear the toxins out of your system faster.
It is imperative that one replaces the habit with something else, not to mention the added health benefits.
There-s a tendency to gain weight because the oral fixation associated with smoking is usually replaced by eating. Exercise not only helps keep the weight off, but rebuilds the lung capacity that has been damaged from smoking.
It will speed up the recovery of your lungs, and it will make you not want to smoke anymore once you start enjoying exercise and you realize that smoking will hinder it.
Exercising is a step towards better health, as is quitting smoking. Combine the 2 and you-ll feel much better physically in no time! Also, by quitting smoking and exercising, you will be encouraging your lungs to strengthen (if you do cardio).
Why shouldn-t you exercise? It-s important for short and long-term health, as well as how it makes you feel (i.e. conidence, appearance etc). Whether you smoke or not, exercise is important.
I think it is because it will help alleviate stress. Alot of people smoke because they are stressed out and exercise can help de-stress you.
Why should you exercise if you want to quit smoking? -

I quit smoking a week ago and still have more cigs, should I smoke one even though I dont have the urge? -

I quit smoking a week ago and still have more cigs, should I smoke one even though I dont have the urge? -

right after i started taking some anti depressants called zoloft, i quit smoking and lost the urge to smoke, but i still have cigs in my purse and was wondering if i should puff a few times just to see if I am really done with smoking.
no.. just put them in the freezer or somewhere that you can get to them if you have a crisis and they can save you from buying a pack. $9.00 a pack here!..
NO
NO! Of course you shouldn-t. Once you try one it will lead to another, and another. Throw those ciggarettes away!
Dont do it. Sell them to one of your friends who smoke. Get them out of there!
that-s about the dumbest idea I-ve heard tonight.
I quit smoking a week ago and still have more cigs, should I smoke one even though I dont have the urge? -

To all ex-smokers what are the benefits of quitting smoking and what is the best way to quit? -

To all ex-smokers what are the benefits of quitting smoking and what is the best way to quit? -

Your clothes, house, car and mouth don-t stink any more.
You are able to climb satairs without being out of breath.
You can sleep better at night.
You are less susceptible to colds and flu.
Your overall helath imporoves significantly.

I can see that you are building up your resolve to stop. Soon, you will be ready.

Quitting smoking is a great opportunity to learn about ourselves, as you have already observed.
Congratulate yourself on having the desire to stop - then you are over the worst, but still need to maintain your resolve. It-s just so easy to start thinking that just one won-t hurt, but it does. Just one achieves nothing except feeling the need for another. Whatever you do, don-t have just one.

The main benefit for quiting smoking would be your health, and the health of the people around you (your frineds/family/loved ones) Not to mention the expense. The best way to quit is cold turkey! Its tough but well worth it in the long run!
Cold Turkey !!
I have been a smoker and I stopped 15 years ago .
I praised myself for every day I could do without a cigarette .
After a few days , I started to have a hard time ....I wanted one ....but I said to myself ...- come on , you got this far already ...keep going , keep going - I did .
I can run , I can do a lot of things I couldn-t do anymore , because I had no breath .
I feel soooooo , much better now .
To live longer, and to just go cold turkey.
The best way to quit is to go cold turkey. You can expect to cough up litres of gunk (slight exaggeration) in the first six weeks - as your lungs repair themselves. You will find that you will not catch anywhere near as many colds or infections and that you can walk, run and climb stairs without gasping for air. Your speaking and singing voices will be sweeter and stronger. Your skin will lose it-s yellow or grey pallour and you will regain your sense of smell and taste. In fact food will taste so good that you will be awestruck! You will have fresh breath, your tongue will lose its furry coat and your teeth will actually start to whiten. Your clothes, hair and skin will smell nice and clean instead of like an old ashtray. These are the immediate changes. Long term - your heart will be healthier, your lungs will breathe easier and you will be at less risk of developing a whole host of chronic diseases and organ conditions - including cancers. In fact - your whole body will feel, look and be so much healthier. You stand the chance of living for an extra ten years. The single defining moment for me - I mean the moment I decided not to smoke any more - came when I saw a man ravaged by tongue and mouth cancer. He had still not given up the habit and smoked through a hole in his throat. It still makes me sick to my stomach thinking about it 25 years later. You can do it! GOOD LUCK!!!
Neverending benefits.. it-s not about -living longer- but quality of life.... Better for my teeth, hair, skin and pocket... No more of that slavery. Once you quit for a while, you can smell smoke on someone from miles away, it-s really weird.

I just quit, so did not use any technique, but I understand that for someone is really difficult to quit....
The benefits are myriad. Just smell your apartment/house and clothes in a week and you-ll know the answer to that one! Seriously, the main benefit is the ability to BREATHE. If you can go to the gym while quitting, that-s the best way to realize nearly instant gratification.

The best way to quit, however, is going to depend on you and you alone. Everyone-s got advice about how cold turkey is the only way, or conversely about how cold turkey is too difficult. Only you can make that decision. If you choose to use a certain method because others have bullied you into it and it doesn-t work for you, then what good will any of it be when you are smoking again? I like the patch best, but my last quit was cold turkey. Some people liked -The Easy Way- by Allan Carr, some people find the help of nicotine gum to be a priceless substitute, while some find that the patch breaks the need/feed chain while helping them to deal with their addiction one aspect at a time.

Good luck to you. It-s most important that you choose your quit method. Don-t forget to use online resources like quitnet as well.
When i finally quit smoking, i was able to eat better (better appetite), less respiratory related infections, better relaxation of the mind, better relationships (more people will hate you for smoking than not smoking). It-s your choice man...
Take it one craving at a time. Try to immediatley think of something else, even if its as mundane as listing as many colors as you can think of. I try to tell myself -I won-t have one this craving, maybe the next craving...- It has worked so far for me.

My main reason for quitting is health and it ages our skin so much more rapidly. I don-t need any help in that area.
There are so many benefits they couldn-t all be listed here. The best way to stop for one person may not work for another. Try cold turkey, patches, gum, or slowly cutting back. With a little perseverance you-ll find the one that works best for you. Good luck, you wont regret it.
Smoking can make you sick more often, make your clothes, breath and hair smell like an ashtray, cost you tons of money and inconvenience, make you feel ashamed because you know you are an addict, and scare you with the thought of breaking that addiction as being very painful and hard. I quit by accepting these facts and using my willpower to calm myself. You can use the patch, gum, cloves, hypmotism and what ever else works for you, but just make up your mind first to respect yourself enough to give up this ridiculous addiction.

I quit smoking cold turkey and it was really easy!? -

I smoked a cigarrette once and then instead of going for a second one, I quit. Just like that! It was so easy! I just don-t understand what the big deal is. People who smoke must have absolutely no self-discipline! What-s so hard about quitting smoking?
after 5 failed attempts at smoking and it defiantly was not because of self discipline, i too was able to quit cold turkey and found it easy also but unlike you i would never tout to people that you have no idea why many other people find it so hard that is so disrespectful and dumb and would probably make the -struggling trying hard to give up- person reach for a smoke, try being sympathetic instead of just pathetic?? and oh! grow up also.
If you have smoked for a while... then the thought of quitting and actually getting to that point is the hardest thing....

It took me months to actually attempt quitting (even though I wanted to do it months before)..... I quit with nicotine patches..... and it was sooooo easy..... I cant believe I didnt do it earlier........ I feel so much better health-wise.....
that is so stupid...
Nicotine is very addictive, ignorance runs rampant. Unless you have had the habit, you don-t know what you-re talking about.
I agree with galfrmga
Not the brightest crayon in the box..

Any successful ways to quit smoking? -

Below is what I wrote to a similar question. My response was chosen as the best answer.

Quitting smoking is not an easy thing to do, especially alone. The longer you-ve smoked, the harder it is going to be to kick the habit.

Quitting is going to require the assistance / guidance of a support group. Friends, family, and colleagues are going to have to support you during this time.

Trying to quit cold turkey usually doesn-t work. Using tools such as Nicotene Gum or a patch will help to reduce cravings. Eating carrot or celery sticks will help with the or-al fixation associated with smoking.

Getting help from your doctor is probably a good way to go as well.

The American Cancer Society provides some good information as does the Wikipedia. Tobacco Free California is also a good resource to get help.

Bottomline, start with a plan. Involve your friends and family, and decide what is going to work best for you.

Good luck!
I found restricting myself to less each day and then smoking a cigar while inhaling helped a lot
Make up your mind to do it, and stick to your committment. There is no easy magical way to do it.
Determination. My boyfriend, now my husband used to chew tobacco and he did it since he was 13 yrs old, he said (he was 29 when he quit). It was disgusting and told him so. But he didn-t quit for that reason. I sat down with him and discussed the possibilities of chewing/smoking tobacco and how much it could affect not only himself but every one who loves him. It did go through his senses and QUIT just like that. One day, he attempted to chew. We filled gas in this station and he went inside and bought the chew. Luckily, I am familiar of the merchandising of the store and I knew he was buying for the KODIAK brand. I was in the car. So he came back and tried to bribe me with candies and chocolate but I insisted for him to give me whatever was in his pocket. HE refused to give it to me but I was firm about helping him to stay healthy - he finally gave it up, and while I was driving I threw it out the window! Since then, he never did chew.

It-s a matter of how serious you are and the support you have around you. Try it and think about your health and your family.
I asked a friend of mine how she did it, she said she just suffered it out.
yeah... research it and see the effects smoking has on the body... trust me I saw it in class and I never want to even think about smoking.
You can ask this question on a hospital. I don`t know where you are from. But here in Denmark we have many free phone numbers where we can ask this type of question to them then they will help us freely. And goverment pays for the service.

ok also you can read that ( If you have tried to quit smoking, you know how hard it can be. It is hard because nicotine is a very addictive drug. For some people, it can be as addictive as heroin or cocaine.
Quitting is hard. Usually people make 2 or 3 tries, or more, before finally being able to quit. Each time you try to quit, you can learn about what helps and what hurts.

Quitting takes hard work and a lot of effort, but you can quit smoking. )
just tried and God will help you

Whats the easiest way to get someone to quit smoking? -

tring to get my wife to quit
Make a bet! I hate losing a bet and my husband I make bets ALL the time.

It-s gotta be worth it though, because smoking is as hard to quit as heroin is. Make the bets small at first and gradually make them bigger. Taylor the rewards based upon what she likes. It-s even better if you offer to do (or not do) something as well.

For example: If you don-t smoke for 1 day, you get this or I-ll do this. (small reward. Breakfast in bed, dinner out or made by you, etc...)

After she wins the first bet, she-ll feel confident and will be much more receptive when you suggest another -bet-. This time it will be more difficult (naturally) but the reward will be bigger.

It-s a slow process and I know you-d prefer a fast one, but it just may work for you. If my husband makes bets with me for breakfast in bed, a massage, a housekeeper (him or hired!) for a day, a great pair of shoes, a weekend getaway or piece of jewelry, I-m ALL over it!

If your wife is at all competitive...she-ll be up for the challenge.
Thanks for picking my answer - I wish you and your wife all the best!

Go to www.chantix.com read about this new quit smoking pill manufactured by Pfizer Corp..It-s expensive, some insurance companies will cover it, Your Doctor has to prescrib it or maybe you can get a prscript. on line...I know people who are on it and were 1 to 2 pack a day smokers..They have been on it from 30 to 60 days and say they don-t even have a desire to smoke regardless of situations nor have they put on weight..They swear by this..Cost should not be a factor even if Ins. company doesn-t pay..a carton of Cigs is at least $30.00 so month of Chantix is 6 cartons of cigs and a better quality of life..is it worth it you bet..Good Luck..
I have a cure I swear will work for anyone: Start running. After a long run, you will initially crave a cigarette. But as soon as you take the first puff, it will seem very foreign to your body (even if you are an addict). You will keep trying to suck it down but feel worse and worse, both physically and emotionally. You will then give up trying to smoke for that evening, and repeat the process the next day. However, I think drinking always causes cigarette cravings for former smokers, so that will never go away.
jail. no access to cigs and not around anyone smoking. but she will never quit if she doesn-t really want to.
tie them to a tree and throw pies at them until they give in
TRY THE NICOTINE INHALOR BUT IT IS UP TO THE PERSON THEY HAVE TO WANT TO QUIT
there is no easy way, your wife must want to stop, and put all her willpower into it.,,good luck
This is the best way

http://tinyurl.com/ph8kd

There are many ways, depends of the person you apply. I recommend to take her to a hospital whit people how soffer becouse they don-t stop smoking in time, to see and learn about the dammage of smoking.
Good luck
I used the patch, and bag after bag of Mary Jane candies, Every time I felt the need to smoke I tapped on the patch a few times. Didnt do anything but it made me feel better
First she would need to want to quit. I-m a smoker and have been for 17 years and no amount of pleading and begging from my boyfriend, or children or anyone else for that matter will get me to quit. I enjoy it. I figure, I-m going to die anyways, I might as well die happy. But if she wants to quit, it has to be HER decision, not anybody else-s.
You cannot get someone else to stop smoking.
They have to really want to stop themselves. If someone is nagging at them about it, it only makes it worse.
She already knows how you feel about it, so you have to be patient and wait until she is ready.
That-s just about impossible. She has to make up her own mind to quit smoking. Smoking is very addicting.
you can-t -get- anyone to do anything they don-t want to do. it-s as simple as that.

I a male 5-8 174lbs. My normal weight is between 150-160. I swear, since I started smoking, I can-t stop eating. I crave the most unhealthiest things. Any suggestion would be very helpful. Also wondering if there are any websites out there that offers a diet plan for free.
Weight Watchers has been wonderful for me! Sometimes you can sign up for a trail period for free, if not, it is 16.95 a month. Short of that, I would suggest substituting you snacks with veggies. Have it prepared ahead of time. Dunking in fat free salad dressing, or salsa is great! Also, watch what you drink. Pop and sports drinks have lots of hidden calories!
go walking or by bike to ur work
When You get a craving to Eat have healthy snacks on hand ie:Fruits - Veggies. Exercise walk when you can a 20 Min walk helps a lot. I keep celery and Carrot sticks handy as they offer something to chew and helps to relieve the cravings. Also apples are good the nice crispy ones.
good for you!! quitting smoking is a really big step!

about the pounds...just watch what you eat. when you get something to eat, ask ur self if its healthy and if its not, is it worth it? also, if you have time start exercising.
when u smoke cigarettes, the nicotine curbs your appetite, so u are less likely to be hungry, and so ur body basically goes into -starvation mode- w/o you realizing it. so, when u quit smoking, u regain that appetite, but in a larger way, b/c ur body was -starved- for so long. so ur body bounces back to the way it was and u start piling on the weight again. it-s just the same as when an anorexic person starts to eat normally again. so how to take off the extra 14 1bs? just drink lots of water( esp. before meals in order to curb ur appetite so u will more likely eat less), incorporate more fruits, veggies, protein (esp. protein b/c it helps you keep ur stomach full longer- beans are the best source of protein) and fiber in your diet, take vitamins every day, drink low-fat or skim milk or eat low-fat yogurt(not whole), and work out , especially in the early morning before u go to work so ur body can burn off the calories throughout the entire day(cardio and running are the best excercises to fight fat) for at least 30 min. every day (fit excercise around ur schedule and work out on the weekends). oh and DO NOT skip breakfast b/c doing so will make u gain even more weight! and when eating, eat in moderation- it-s called portion control! for your heaight, weight and age, i reccomend mypyramid.gov, a gov-t website that tells u how much calories u need to eat a day. i-m not sure, but i think that a person like u has to eat about 2500-3000 calories a day (just check the website to be sure of this!). anywayz, the point is to eat healthy, excercise, eat in moderation and drink lots of water!!!!!!!!
ugh. bummer. well first off congrats on quitting!!!!!!!

second, join a gym. I bet you were holding back from exercise since you were smoking all the time. I used to smoke when I was real young and god was that ever a mistake. I found that when I ran I would have to stop because I would have coughing fits. so start exercising again. make sure you eat a balanced diet and have a few sweets every once in a while to offset some of the cravings later on.

Help! How can I quit smoking? -

I have tried everything from cold turkey to medications and I cannot seem to drive the nicotine monster away!

My life is very stressful right now with a very ill husband. I cannot be a good caregiver if I don-t take care of myself. There are so many patients dying of lung cancer and I watch as they sit outside the hospital in their wheelchairs having a smoke. I could cry for them because I know how strong the addiction really is.

I don-t want to end up that way.
Chantix. Go ask your doctor about it. I tried to quit for 5 years, I was on it for about 3 weeks and I quit. It is different from other medications since it stimulates your nicotine receptors, fooling your body into thinking you are smoking while you become nicotine free. You still smoke while you are on it, but you will notice that you slowly out cigarettes out sooner, then one day, you just quit and don-t even realize it. This stuff is amazing, better than any patch or anything. They also give you e-mails and stuff to help you along.

They say to set a quit date, but I didn-t, I just let the medication work, it takes about 2 weeks to build up, then you need just a bit of effort to stop. I never even relapsed, being a non smoker is amazing now, can-t stand the smell now. The cost of a Chantix prescription is about the same as a carton of cigarettes.
Group hypnosis +

CD-s hypnosis programs (15 min-s each) to listen to 3-4 times a day for at least 31 days +

Accupressure.

I recomend you check out the news paper .... they travel around and it usually costs $99.00. The CD-s cost $15 each (get all of -em) ... Migun Thermal massage is so great to get ride of stress - the accupressure actually stops censations. Check u-r phone to see if you have a place near you ... most owners let you try the machien for 4-6 months for free (tip jars allow you to pay what you can) (
http://www.migunworld.com/)

The gum worked for me. Used far more of it than I was supposed to, but I haven-t smoked since Feb 2004.
First at all, as a smoker myself, I have to tell you that the only way to quit is do it at once...Just quit and throw away the cigars...
Nothing and nobody can stop the habit for you...say no and no more...it-s gonna be hard but you can do it if you want...
The only thing I-m concerned is that you say you have a lot of stress and that-s not gonna help you...instead of looking for smoke quitting solutions look for help on the problems around your life, at the end it-s going to help with your addiction too! Good Luck!
Have you tried a Yahoo search for -how to quit smoking-?

How to quit smoking ....please help? -

My husband and I are both ready to quit smoking, the cost and are health are both factors.

We have tried, it didn-t work. Does anyone have any advice on how to help. Thanks
Nicotine is a drug and if you can just stop then thats great. If you have a lot of trouble then do what is advised for addictive drugs, taper off.
Everyone differs in the way their body copes with the removal of a drug, its down to metabolism and we-re all different.

Mouschi-s idea is a good basic plan, reduce the number of cigarettes by 1 a day - or maybe cut down by 5 initially as that is not so hard and will make you feel you-re getting somewhere straight away, then one per day after that.

Its a good idea to keep a written note of how you do each day and as you go down you-ll have worked out which times of the day you want to smoke the remaining number, which stops the panic.

If you slip up during your reducing and end up having an extra one, try and see it as -OK, I-ve smoked more than I was supposed to today, that was just a one off treat, tomorrow I-m going to be back on form- instead of thinking -I-ve messed up and I can-t do it-.

If you need to spend more that one day per a one cigarette drop, then do it that way - just set a time that YOU can cope reducing, the less stress you feel about cutting down, the more likely you are to be be able to get off them comfortably and permanently, and thats the aim in the end, however slowly you reduce.

If you keep an accurate notepad record throughout you-re able to see how successful you-ve been - even if you-ve had the extra one occasionally -and the jump off at the end will, by the time you get to the end, be more of a great feeling that you can do it, than the vague and terrifying one normally associated with giving up.

If you think you-ll need extra help to fill in some of the gaps between cigarettes, stock up with something to do that, whether its raw carrot or celery or fruit or even chewing gum - whatever does the trick for each of you. Plan it all out as far as possible in readiness for the start. Best of luck, but you won-t need that - you can do it. :)

PS: Please don-t even think of taking champix (or chantix - depending on where you-re from) if your GP suggests it, as there are already warnings of some nasty side effects
http://www.fda.gov/consumer/updates/chan…
and some suicides have taken place on the drug.
http://cbs11tv.com/investigators/chantix…
and in 2008 Chantix/Champix clocked up -...50 fatalities and 1,001 serious injuries in the first quarter of the year. Since its approval in 2006, the drug has been implicated in 112 fatalities and 3,325 serious injuries...-
http://www.naturalnews.com/026083.html

There is only one way to stop smoking and that is -Will power- say that you are both going to stop smoking and don-t let any thing stand in the way, also if you both spent £10 a day on smoking then put that £20 a day in a jar were you can see it, after a month when you se how much you have save, then you won-t want to start smoking again, I paid the deposit on my house with the money I saved from smoking.
Ok, I will give you three advices, one of them will 100% help!

1. Nicorette - it helped to my friend, but after 1 year he started smoking again, tried this pell and 2nd time it didnt work.

2. Take a cigarette, put it into milk, and then place it somewhere in sunny place, so it could dry out. After it dries, smoke it! You will see results!

3. This one, I tried on myself, and I acctually did quit, but only for 6 month :) So, just smoke as many as u can!

Good luck!
Try calculating about how many cigs you smoke in one day. As each day goes by take one cig away. For example, say you smoke 15 cigs a day. The next day only allow yourself 14. It is important to only keep the specific amount of cigs each day. This way a secret stash of cigs won-t send you into a relapse. Eventually I found myself down to 1 cig and I knew right when I had to have it, after eating1 This did work for me. It was advice from my OBGYN. I believe it is possible to wean from cigs. All you can do is try! Good Luck! Be Strong!
To be honest I don-t think there is any guaranteed method of helping you to stop , patches , gum , hypnosis , and even acupuncture work for some but not for others.
All you can do is just stop buying cigarettes , if you don-t have them you can-t smoke them..you.just have to have the willpower to do it.
I had the same problem with alcohol , used to drink way to often and way to much...just said to myself Right No More !! Just stopped it
immediately and never have or never will drink again.

good luck : )

Hey at least both of you are trying to stop that helps .Good ole peer pressure .That-s how you got started ,right? The only people I know that have been successful went cold turkey. Remove all guns and knives, and razor blades before trying this! Some states have free st smoking hot lines . Good luck.
I got to get back to my bottle of scotch now!
Jai Ho... Nice answer from you!!!

My advice would be to put every penny you would have spent on fags into a jar, after a while count it up and go treat yourself!!

As for the initial giving up, speak to your doctor - They will give you lots of advice!
cold turkey is the proven, most effective method. 2nd is the patch. Best of luck to you. It-s really a great thing to do for you and your spouse.
Shock therapy. Works a treat. Nothing will get you off the fags faster than seeing the rotted lungs of a deceased smoker up close and personal. Speaking of which i-d better find my nicorettes.
You have to WANT to quit smoking. That-s the only way it will last. If you quit just because it is expensive, you will still feel the urge and will most likely come back once the price goes down.
There are three options you can choose from ,patches, sweets or gum. and will power
my cousin stopped smoking by chewing gum.

everytime you have the urge to smoke, chew a piece of gum.
NHS is the best place to start, good look if you contact them they will send you a dvd free
go on the pill
then you-ll get a stroke
that will make you stop

I want to quit smoking? -

I want to quit for me. However, my husband smokes and I dont want to expect him to quit. I also find it hard because I can-t stay away from smokers, and I love to drink and smoke together, I cant very well stay away from drinking on the weekends either. I need that to wind down on the weekends, My husband is in Iraq and things are Very stressful right now, I picked a bad time to quit, but its a top priority for me right now. Please any advice would be great. I have tried cold turkey and as soon as I eat or go walking, or go kart riding, anything i do on a normal day, I want one so bad, and my friends and family are no help cause they give into my begging. Please help me out here.
I tried going cold turkey, but I also got no help from friends or family. What I did was go to the supermarket and buy a bunch of celery. Every time I wanted a cig i just ate a stick of celery (0 fat, calories and carbs). I went through alot of celery but it was worth it. Drinking and smoking go hand and hand but I brought gum to the bars. When I wanted to smoke I chewed gum (alot by the way). It was hard but by day 5 it gets easier. Its hard to stop, but I think you can do it, you will feel better I promise you. I will pray for you husband, and all the soldiers, to return as soon as possible. When he comes home thank him for his service to our country.
My sister in law, quit cold turkey. She put her cigarettes in the top shelf of her cupboard, so that she would have to climb to get them. She quit that way. Unfortunately, she didn-t quit soon enough, she died of a heart attack, several years later. Sit down with a calculator, and figure out how much you will save per month by not smoking, then figure out how much longer you will live, when you quit smoking. I never smoked, but my siblings did. I now have outlived all of my siblings.
Here are a couple of websites to check out.

They provide wonderful support and assistance.

The best of luck to you!!!!

Good Reasons for Quitting

Quitting smoking is one of the most important things you will ever do.

You will live longer and live better.

Quitting will lower your chance of having a heart attack, stroke, or cancer.

The people you live with, especially your children, will be healthier.

You will have extra money to spend on things other than cigarettes.
When I decided to quit I made a list of 10 reason to quit smoking and kept them in my wallet. When I had the urge I would look at the list and that would help. The 1st few days will be really hard but remember nicotine is only in your system for 72 hours. So the rest of the addicition is mental. If millions of people can quit you can too. You are not any weaker then others when it comes to will power.

Good Luck and if you ever need a something you can email me to help you through it.
I know hypnosis has a 95 percent success rate. If you are serious about quitting, it won-t hurt to try it.
every time you see a cigarette pinch yourself. soon when you see a cigarette you will feel like your being pinched , even though your not

or just chew gum when you want a cigarette

or visit the hospital and see what happens to people that smoke
Hike the Appalachain Trail from Georgia to Maine. It takes about six months, but you-ll not only quit smoking along the way you also won-t gain any weight. Not only that, but you-ll lose any unwanted pounds you may be carrying. Good luck.
I never smoked, so must admit I can-t speak out of experience.

But a few of people I know have been through it. I heard that it is important to stop at a moment when you feel good about something, that seems to make it a lot easier. Then it might help to ask somebody to check your progress, for example that person calls you a few times a day to inquire if you-re still holding on. That way you get an immediate reward for holding on (you can tell that person you still don-t smoke). The first few days are important, but for some while longer you-ll suffer the moments when you would have lighted up one. It is said that once you have quit for 6 months the danger of a relapse is decreasing rapidly.

Maybe you find much better ways then this, but it-s definitely a good idea to quit ! I hope you-ll manage to do it.
I-m on my 2nd week using the QuitKey method. It-s working well thus far. You can check it out at quitkey.com and if you decide to try it, it-s cheaper at
http://www.herbsmoke.com/quit/

Good luck.
Throw your cigaretts in the toilet, and flush.
Do-nt buy a cigarette. Keep candy with you, if you feel like you wanted to smoke, just eat some of it.
Try inhaling from the -lit end of the filter-.
That aught to do it.
here-s the best way to quit smoking:

smoke normally for a week, and keep a very accurate account of how many/when you smoke.

looking at this information, begin to cut out cigarettes one week at a time. take your time with it, as long as a couple months even. after all, if you-ve been smoking, another 6 weeks of it won-t make things much worse :P

the smoking is the only thing to change. this allows you to keep the other elements of your routine the same, as well as helping you avoid urges because of the gradual step down from cigarettes.
First get rid of all your cigarettes!
Then dont buy anymore
MY UNCLE RECENTLY DIED RECENTLY OF HEART TROUBLES HE WAS FIRLY YOUNG BYE TODAYS STANDARDS HE WAS 41(IAM 21 MYSELF, ETC ANYWAYS WHILE I WAS VISITING HIM IN HOSPITALL WHILE HE WAS DECKED OUT OVER A MAJOR HEARTACHE HE SAYS THE ONLY WAY TOO QUITT IS BYE JUST DOING IT IN YOUR HEAD HE POINTED TOO HIS FORE HEAD AND SAYS , LOOK NO MATTER HOW MUCH JUNKE THEY PUT ON THE MARKET( MEANING NICITINE PATCHES ETC) YA CAN DO IT ITS ALL IN YOUR HEAD BEST MEDICINE, ETC!!
Question is do you want to? I smoke and then quit, went through some rough spots and picked it back up. My Fiance wants me to quit, but I dont want to, if and when I do I will quit but not til im ready. So Do you want to quit smoking?
e-mail me if you need help. I quit on october 19, 2003. and havent smoked once since. I will give you some tips if you would like.
Try using nicotine patches to reduce the cravings (the gum will remind you of smoking). Get rid of all of your smoking paraphenalia (ashtrays, lighters, etc) and do your best to clear your living area of the smoking smell. This and willpower will help you quit.
Don-t buy anymore, or be around anyone that has them.
Talk with your doctor, first. There are new medications available, to assist you with all the different side effects of quitting. Quitting is an individual thing... Your response will be unique. You don-t have to do it cold turkey, anymore. Take advantage of the help that-s out there. PS: Good for you. Quitting is one of the best things you can do for yourself, your body, your health.
I wish you the best of luck. and if/when you do it let me know how you did it!!
just stop doing smoking
after 34 years, i used the step down patches and that worked for me. i also stayed away from places and stopped doing some of the things that i had associated with smoking. Good luck to you!
Don-t buy any more ever. Get the patch.
there-s patches and pills and even hypnotists you can utilize. make sure you find a hobby and keep your hands busy, cause your so used to a smoke being there.
I think Jessica S is right. You just have to WANT to. I wanted to and quit cold turley after 10 years of smoking. My husband on the other hand really loves to smoke and simply cannot quit. I also like to look at it like why should we let some tiny little nasty cancer causing stick control our lives? Try to look at the big picture. Try to find something else (healthy) to do and do it when you would normally smoke. I-m not an expert but those are my opinions. Good luck to you. If I could quit, anyone can!!
The patches worked well - but you have to want to quit too. They are not enough to work on their own. You have to have some willpower.
Sleep 24 hours a day :)
Besides patches or gum, hang out at places where you can-t smoke.
Hot candy and the patch also works believe it or not.
Use the step down patches. That is what worked for me.
Quit cold turkey, I did I used to smoke 2 packs a day. It-s called will power. Do a little math to convince yourself how money would you save a year by not smoking, You will be very surprised. I saved $2912.00 a year That is a lot money you can use on something that will make you happy.

Help, I want to quit smoking? -

I added up that my husband and I spend on average $160 a month on cigarettes and that-s only if he smokes one pack a day and usually he smokes 2 to 2 1/2 packs a day. I have three toddlers at home and I stay at home full time, I am so very stressed out but I want to quit. Please anyone with ideas or suggestions or who has gone through this and quit successfully, I would greatly appreciate words of encouragement and/or support that has helped u through this.
Congratulations for taking the time for yourself to stop smoking! In 24 hours of cessation, you will already have significantly decreased your risk of heart disease!
It is so important, especially with three children in the holme, to attempt to quit smoking. THere are a lot of different ways to do it, and it might take a few tries, but don-t give up!
One way is to take Wellbutrin. Here-s the tricky part. If it is for smoking cessation, the insurance companies won-t pay. If you get it for depression, you can just pay your copay. I think you catch my drift.
Oral satisfaction is a factor. Gum is probably better than the patches, but use both if you have to.
Exercise helps! Its no joke. It ups your endorphin levels and you will feel good every time you finish a workout. If you need to start slow, take the kids for a half hour walk.
Remember to take it SLOW! If you make your goals too high too fast and you fail, you-re more likely to slip back into old habits. It will take at least a year for you to feel like a -non smoker-, but you definitely owe it to yourself and your family to kick the expensive habit!
My husband and I both quit last August. I also am a stay at home mom and didn-t think that I could quit. My husband wore the patch for 6 weeks. I quit cold turkey. I had gotten up one morning and lit a cigarette and it just made me feel sick. I took the rest of what I had left (maybe 5) broke them into pieces. (We both had smoked for 28 yrs.) We both found that drinking allot of water, chewing gum and dumb dumb lollipops helped. We chewed more gum in that first week than we had in years. My friend used Zyban. Another friend was on Wellbutrin.....they both said it helped with the cravings. My best advice to you would be.......pick a stop day and stick to it. At first just give yourself a pat on the back for not smoking for a few hours, then go day by day. When you get a craving.......take a short walk.......doodle on a paper........grab a lollipop or gum but don-t grab a cigarette. The first week is the toughest. And talk with others who have quit. They are full of advice and support. Good Luck.
Find something that keeps you occupied! May it be music, dance, sports, games. Among my friends are heavy smokers and I encourage them to quit all the time. You can do it! It-s really something useless and the very last thing in human needs.
Smoking is a very bad habit to get into, and believe me, I-m not blaming you for it. At a certain age, it-s hard /not/ to smoke. I would assume that you-ve been smoking for at least a few years if you have kids and a husband. I would suggest taking it slow; instead of, lets say, two packs a day, try one or one and a half, and go from there, shortening the amount every few weeks, or when you see fit. If your husband makes no move to change his smoking habits, try not to let it get to you. Think of your kids- you could be harming them by secondhand smoke, even if you don-t smoke everywhere in your house- and they will be much more likely to take up smoking if their parents do. Make sure you tell your husband this. Good luck, and stay healthy!
1) decide you are going to quit

2) follow this approach (and notice I said follow, not try, because when we say we are going to try, its like saying we will be happy to fail, as long as we are justified in trying), ok so approach is to reduce the number of hours/day that you smoke

start by not smoking before 10 am , then move that to noon, then 3pm, then 6pm, then 8pm THEN, cut it out altogether
i smoked for 36 yrs when i quit i was burning 3 to 5 pks a day if u make up ur mind and only if u do that u can quit when u get down to 5 cigs in a pack push them back dont throw them away but tell urself u can go 5 min with out 1 then go 5 min then tell urself i went 5 min without 1 now ill go 5 more but u can tell u self if i just have to have 1 u still got 5 left but i made it 5 min i can go another 5 just keep it up until u can advance to 10 min just keep it up i did that back in 1981 still doing without i finally threw the 5 cigs away about 2 yrs later IT AINT EASY good luck
I-M NOT A SMOKER, BUT MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY TO GET IN A SUPPORT GROUP, YOU CAN ALSO TRY NICODERM PATCHES, IF NOTHING ELSE GO TALK WITH YOUR FAMILY DOCTOR FOR HELP. ONCE YOU QUIT SMOKING YOUR HEALTH OVERALL WILL START TO IMPROVE. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT IT-S EASIER SAID THAN DONE TO TRY QUITTING SMOKING. IF YOUR HUSBAND WANTS TO QUIT SMOKING, YOU BOTH SHOULD DO THIS TOGETHER. GOOD LUCK AND WISH YOU THE BEST.
Hi Hopeless. I am HOPE. I have had 4 people in my life die of smoking related disease. An uncle died of lung cancer the morning after I arrived and we went to the hospital the night I arrived. A co-worker died of lung cancer 6 months after it was detected. A friend had a lung removed because of cancer. And a co-worker pushed his 02 bottle around in the office before he died. If you have never heard someone with emphysema gasp for air, visit your local Lung Association office and ask them.

The fact is emphysema and lung cancer cure smoking. If the 3 toddlers aren-t big enough to push your 02 bottle, GET HELP AND GET HELP TODAY..... Good Luck
Go see your doctor and get a prescription for Wellbutrin (generic Zyban) Once on the medication, you can put the smokes down for good. I was a 3-4 pack a day smoker for 10 years. I had stopped twice, for a short time. Wellbutrin worked and I am cigarette free for 10 years.
Me too sweetheart! However I do not have children, and I think that that alone should help you quit. I am not being a hipocrite, when I do have children I really hope I have the strenght to quit. And your husband is not helping, its not his fault, both me and my gfirnd smoke and its really tough to quit by yourself and even hardeer with someone else. Good luck!!!! See you in the hospital, I will be the one pushing my oxegen tank
Smoking: Everybody knows that smoking is dangerous. Smoking can damage your body, particularly your lungs, your brain, and your heart. The poisonous chemicals in a cigarette can cause death.

Try subliminal music. It is only a few dollars and you can get it from

. It is a good alternative to taking pills and spending money to see your doctor. Plus, it reduces stress.
Well, you-ve taken the first step, realizing the severity of the problem. What you spend on cigarettes is only the tip of the financial iceberg. There-s the extra for cleaning, health care (both yours and the kids) that goes with that too. I won-t even get into the health consequences for both you and your children, they are too well known.

Next step, each person is different. If you have severe Nicotine withdrawal, a patch or the gum may help. Of course your ultimate goal is to kick nicotine altogether.

Enlist your kids. If you are really serious then they can help. Tell them you want them to stop you if you try to light up. Remember that they are children and only a safety net reminder. If you are not serious, then don-t have them help.

Make plans. Talk with your husband about what you could do with the save money. Put up clippings and pictures of your goal. Keep that goal in front of you. It will help keep you focused.

There is a possibility that your insurance might cover participation in a program like Smoke Stoppers. Or such an option may be available through your husbands work.
First of all, congratulations! I know it is hard but it can be done. I smoked for 35 years and quit 3 1/2 years ago. I went through hypnosis and it-s funny because I didn-t feel any differently when I left the session. But I almost immediately stopped. I think I may have had 3 or 4 more cigarettes. Sometimes it crosses my mind to start again but I wouldn-t go back to it now for anything! Think of all the money you-ll save. Put the money that you would spend on cigarettes a month away and take a nice vacation instead! I feel so much better, I even joined a gym. I am able to do things with my grandchildren that I could not do before because I was always short of breath. I watched my father die because of his 4 pack a day habit and that still didn-t stop me. If you are absolutely ready to quit YOU CAN DO IT! I-d tell you to do it for your kids because they are inhaling that stuff too, but you have to do it for YOU!
