I want to quit smoking and need some help? -

I really want to quit but i have like no willpower so it-s been really hard i have been trying and failing for almost a year. I can-t afford the patches or anything, i can-t even afford the cigarettes but it seems like i always find a way to get some, so any tips on getting over the cravings would be great!
hi Marisa

i know the feeling about not being able to quit.. i smoked for over 40 years, the last 5 of them, trying to quit, time and time again.. the only thing that worked for me was joining a support group..

one of the methods we employ is known as the 5 D-s..

Distract.. (ie do something else) its hard to smoke for instance washing dishes..

Discuss.. you did that by posting for help.. we often discuss cravings with other quitters..

Delay.. (i don-t need one now).. you can postpone one forever a minute at a time!!

Drink water.. believe it or not it helps with cravings, and flushes the system.

Deep breathe, yogis to Opera singers..use this method..most smokers only breathed deep dragging on a cigarette..

i am a member of nicotine anonymous.and attend meetings online and locally, (they are free, however you can contribute to cover expenses if you wish).. there are a number of voice meetings available on line, we are as close as your Computer..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.

Put a rubber band around your wrist and snap it whenever you get a craving. The pain will make smoking have a negative connotation.

Do something else. Chew gum, or drink orange juice or something that-s just nasty as hell with a cigarette. Do something with your hands (washing dishes is a good one- it-s hard as hell to smoke then :P) or just something similar.

Go inside where you CAN-T smoke (according to most local laws).

Stop hanging out with smokers for awhile if they pressure you (eg come outside with us, it-s just one cig!) just be like sorry guys I gotta give it a break for awhile and if they-re annoying you and not helping you just be away from them for a bit.

Good luck!
I quit a 2 pack a day habit using an electronic cigarette. They are amazing. The last time I had a traditional cigarette was an hour before I got my e-cig in the mail. I have not had the desire to smoke a traditional cigarette ever since. Here is a link to the company I buy from. They have one of the best reputations in the e-cig world and great prices. Good luck on your journey to a healthier you.
